South Elementary Artist of the Month

Congratulations to our first South Elementary artist of the month.  Great work Nevaeh!  Her work will be on display for the rest of October at Steenstra's Royal Dutch Bakery in Grandville.

4th Grade Foil Scluptures

 4th Graders have been creating foil people, they then had to create a backdrop for their people.  I hope these make it home in one piece because they turned out very cool but are very fragile. 

PreK and Kindergarten Monsters

 These adorable monsters were made by the Kinders.  We read the story of the Gruffalo and talked about how monsters can be scarry or friendly and painted our monsters,  Then the really hard part was cutting out these crazy shapes and gluing them down.  

2nd Grade Sun Moon

 2nd Grade learned about warm and cool colors when we did our Name project, on this project we focused on our Complementary color Sets.  We started with oil pastel to draw our sun/moon faces and add patterns and then finished with tempera cakes. 

Third grade foil

 These beautiful foil animals were created by 3rd graders they choose an animal to draw and colored them in the style of  Mexican Oaxacan Animal carvings.

First grade early finishers

First graders who are done early got to do some fancy cutting and folding today to make some really cool Maple leaves

K and YK "NOT a BOX"

Today in Kindergarten and Young Kindergarten we read the book "Not a Box" about a very creative bunny who transforms his box into lots of cool things.   Then we drew our own page for the book with the bunny turning the box into our own idea of fun.  Once we were done drawing I set up the tables for Choice and kiddos got to pick to use oil crayon, marker or paint to finish their work.  

6th Grade Portraits

 6th grade learned facial proportion grids to start the year, then they drew 2 portraits one real and 1 cartoon.  One of their two projects was taken to full color with their choice of media. 

PreK and Kinder Hot air Balloons

 PreK and Kindergarten have spent the last few weeks exploring media and color.  We used our tempera paint to create rainbows a few weeks ago.  Then we used water and chalk to make our skies and finally we put all our parts together cutting and gluing to create these awesome hot air balloons.

1st Grade Matisse Fish

1st graders have been studying Henri Matisse and the Fauvism movement, focusing on Black outlines, Bold colors and Lots of Patterns.   We are still working on these really cool fish but here are some of the early finishers. 

5th Grade Art History Animals

5th Grades have been working on creating animals.  The divided their animal into sections and in each section, they used a different media and showed a different time period in art history. 

3rd Grade Layered Landscapes

 3rd Graders worked on creating landscapes with layers of depth.  They used watercolor and then added details with marker and oil pastel.

1st Grade Lions

 First Graders have been studying Henri Rousseau and his dramatic portrayal of animals.  Kiddos created lions in the jungle and used easel brushes with several colors to create dramatic brush strokes.

2nd Grade Color theory Names

2nd Graders worked on creating color contrast projects, where they used their warm and cool colors and bubble letters of the name to create some very pretty watercolor pictures.  One of the big goals was learning how to paint neat and clean.
