First grade Kandinsky's

First grade learn color mixing this week looking at the work of Kandinsky for inspiration to these lovely circle paintings. Students had to fold their paper to create 8 equal boxes so we talked about how many times we had to fold in half to get to 8.  (Gotta love when you can sneak a little math into art class.)  Then students drew out circles in each of the boxes and finally we painted the boxes using tempra paint.   Students were given their primary colors but they had to create secondary and neutral colors.
